Higher education system in Arab Republic of Egypt includes 27 state universities, 32 private universities, 3 technical universities, branches of 6 international universities, as well as 9 public universities (data 2022). Currently, 47 Egyptian higher education institutions are represented in various international university rankings. Egyptian universities also participate in a number of regional ratings, in particular, in Arab countries. Arab Republic of Egypt established a national system for assessing higher education organizations and quality of higher education programs. It is operated by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education, NAQAAE. Annual assessments are based on 12 parameters, corresponding to national standards for accrediting universities and higher education programs:
Assessment covers two key areas: 1) level of university development and quality of training programs, 2) students and graduates. Assessment is based on databases and services within the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB).
EKB is an extensive ecosystem of services for research organizations and universities, including, among others, Learning Management System (LMS), Student Information System (SIS), and electronic exam system. According to assessments of the Egyptian Ministry of Education, EKB significantly contributes to promoting Arab Republic of Egypt in the SCImago Country Rank global rating, with Arab Republic of Egypt occupying high 25th place.
